Mrs. Valerie Barr is the Baxter ALC Guidance Counselor. She was formerly a counselor at Overton High School and taught at Hillwood High School. Mrs. Barr received her masters degree in guidance from the University of South Carolina and her undergraduate work was completed at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Mrs. Barr’s goals for the Baxter ALC students are educational and personal. Baxter strives to transition students smoothly as they return to their regular public schools. This includes providing Gateway testing, PLAN and EXPLORE testing, Credit Recovery, and obtaining the correct credits for graduation. It is also a top priority to assist students in setting personal goals for future success.
During after school hours, Mrs. Barr and her husband enjoy the animals and peace on their small farm. Her favorite quotes are professional and personal:
One – “It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.”
Two – “Peace is seeing a sunset and knowing Who to thank.”
