Welcome to Bellshire Elementary Design Center

Principal's Message!

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Welcome to Bellshire Design Center (BDC), a school where children come first. We are honored that you have chosen us to work with your child and your family. Our faculty and staff are excited and look forward to serving our students and parents during the 2011-2012 school year.

BDC’s theme this year is, “Working together to make a difference.” We believe parents, students, teachers, support staff, and community members all play an integral role in a student’s success. BDC teachers have a passion for their students and are dedicated to providing each student with a positive learning experience.  All teachers at BDC are highly qualified in the area they teach. BDC’s support staff of educational assistants, custodians, cafeteria staff, office staff and bus drivers are all committed to providing each child with the services needed for success.

The partnership between home and school is vital for our children’s success. Parents, when you help your child with homework, discuss and sign your child’s behavior calendar, insist upon your child’s regular attendance and promptness to school, attend school functions and conferences, you are saying to your child, “you are important and what you do at school is important!” Home, school, and community working together will make a difference for our students both socially and academically.

There are many things to look forward to in 2011-2012. We will continue to focus on rigor and relevance as we work with students each day. Data gathered from students' assessments will guide our teaching as we work to meet the needs of each individual student. New common core standards will be implemented in grades K-2. Parents, you will have access to your child’s grades through Gradespeed, an internet based program. All students in grades K-4 will have a weekly scheduled computer lab time, in addition to Art, P.E. and Music as part of their related arts schedule. Our PTA is planning events for family fun and learning throughout the year. These are just a few of the exciting things to come in 2011-2012!

We welcome and encourage your support and involvement in our journey of learning. Please contact me at donna.wilburn@mnps.org or at 860-1452 if you have questions or desire more information about Bellshire. I hope you enjoy this website and use it as a guide to your school.

Respectfully,

Mrs. Wilburn, Principal
